The Zanesville Christian School Warriors Varsity volleyball squad won first place in the Buckeye Christian School Association state tournament held in Lima, Ohio, on October 26-27, 2012.



The second-seeded Warriors won their first match (2-0, 25-22 and 25-9) against Fayette Christian School (Washington Court House) on Friday morning.

The team then won their second match (2-0, 25-22 and 25-21) against third-seed Licking County Christian Academy (Heath) which moved them into a match against top-seeded Milford Christian School (Milford) on Saturday morning.

Zanesville played hard against the Bulldogs of Milford but lost in two sets (22-25 and 21-25) which set up a rematch against the LCCA Eagles later in the day.

The Warriors were down in the first game against LCCA 19-23, but came back to win 25-23.  They won the second game against the Eagles 25-20 which set up a rematch against Milford for the championship.

The Warriors were up 11-6 in the first game of the championship match when the Bulldogs scored 7 unanswered points to go up 13-11. The rest of the game went back and forth with the Warriors finally winning 30-28.  The second game also went back and forth with Zanesville once again pulling the game out by a score of 25-22.  The third game of the championship match started like the first two games until the Warriors went up 20-13 and went on to win the third game and the championship 25-17. 

Tournament play was led by Catessa Palone who served for 45 points with 3 aces and 12 digs.  Olivia Hooper earned 28 points with 10 aces, 15 kills, and 12 digs.  Brooke Lucas dished out 27 points with 14 aces, 48 assists, 5 digs, and 14 kills.  Cara Brown served for 20 points with 5 aces. She also had 7 assists, 9 digs, and 48 kills. The lone senior, Edith Howell, added 18 points with 2 aces, 11 kills, and 5 assists.  Lana Howell contributed 14 points with 2 aces and 12 digs. 

Brooke Lucas was selected for the all-tournament team.  Cara Brown was named MVP of the tournament and was also selected for the Ohio Christian Conference all-star team by the conference coaches. She played in the BCSA/OCAC all-star match on Saturday, November 3, at LCCA in Heath, Ohio.
