On March 7 and 8, ZCS once again hosted the annual BCSA Fine Arts Competition. Over 350 students, representing 12 member schools, participated in this highly competitive endeavor. The Lord greatly blessed our students' industrious preparation and participation. We placed second in General Bible Knowledge quizzing, first in National Bible Quizzing (over the book of Acts), first in the Academic and Spiritual category, and second in the Speech division. Overall, we placed second in total points and first in average points per student.

To put these achievements into perspective, here are a few additional facts. The first place school (total points) has 83 students who generated 2,003 points. We competed with 12 students and generated 1,824 points! We also posted the highest average per student ever achieved in our competition—151.83 points per student. Only twice before has any school generated over 100 points per student. Individually, we had not only the top 4 female competitors, but also the top 4 competitors: Cara Brown—4th, Brooke Lucas—3rd, Lana Howell—2nd, and Edith Howell—1st. As our lone senior, Edith has set the historical record of being the top competitor 5 consecutive years. She earned second place as a seventh-grader. Congratulations to all our students. All glory to God Who enables!
With fewer students and families this year, hosting the competition would have been impossible without the help we received from our sister schools in BCSA. Many thanks go to students and adults who held doors, ran errands, posted ratings, and helped with maintenance. You all greatly eased our burden and kept the competition running smoothly.
Our own students, staff, and volunteers worked cheerfully and tirelessly. Becky Parks and Terry Tysinger, you and your staff did a wonderful job with the concession stand. The food was excellent and plentiful! Mr. Thompson, Mr. Watts, and Miss Collins oversaw maintenance and set-up crews. Their crew was augmented with the help of Jared Hooper, Tom Harnetty, and Pete Crowley this year; and we were very thankful for that extra manpower! Warren Conrad shuttled people who parked at Sunrise Center, which meant fewer cars were stuck in the mud here! Meanwhile, names and numbers were sorted and tallied in the office under the care of Mr. Shaver, Cindy Lucas, and Patty Tysinger. Again, many thanks to them and their staff. "We give thanks to God always for you all . . . Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ . . ." (I Thess. 1: 2,3)
You are all welcome to attend a program on Friday, March 22, at 7:00 p.m., here at the school. Performances will include music and speeches from the competition. Also, all our students' art and photography will be on display.
