WILLIAMSTOWN -- When Dan Ellis’ squad last tangled with the Warriors of Zanesville Christian the duo of Noah Medich and Eric Brown dismantled the Wildcats from in the inside and outside, posting 26 and 23 points respectively in the Warriors’ 20-point home victory.
Prior to Monday night’s contest, Ellis stressed to his team the importance of limiting Zanesville Christian to one shot and keeping Brown and Medich off the boards.
Unfortunately, the message appeared to be lost in translation as Medich and Brown again played spoiler accounting for 40 of the Warriors’ 65 points as Zanesville Christian cruised past Wood County Christian 65-57.
Zanesville Christian (8-4) wasted little time maximizing advantages down low, as the 6-3 senior guard Medich maneuvered his way through the lane breaking down the Wildcat defense, creating second chances and opening the door for easy baskets by Brown and sophomore Jacob Moore.
“They dominated us on the boards tonight, they made it look real easy,” said Ellis.
Posting 19 first quarter points, the Warriors continually beat Wood County (11-13) to loose balls and in various stretches rebounded several errant shots prompting extended possessions for an already beleaguered Wildcat back line.
“In the first half we didn’t make the shots we typically make. We were getting some good looks but we just didn’t execute well enough offensively to make up for our lack of rebounding,” Ellis said. “It puts a lot of pressure on our offense to make shots when they can get two or three chances each time down.”
In the loss Wood County was led by Judah Longgrear, who tallied 16 points and six rebounds. Also netting double digits was guard Joe Nunley, who posted 10 points off the bench.
